The Ultimate Guide to Goal Setting

Goal setting is important because it is the basis for growth and evolution.

When you have dreams the only way you'll accomplish them is with goals. When we have goals it gives us something to work for every day and eventually gives us the life we deserve. Having goals gives you a clear direction on how you want to live and the steps necessary for that. People who set goals are ten times more likely to achieve significant results than those who don’t. When you have defined goals, you’re more likely to stay committed and driven. That drive will ensure you have more productivity and success. The best part of having goals in my opinion is when you track progress. Looking back at what you’ve achieved helps you stay on track and complete that goal. When life gets hard, we need goals to have the encouragement to keep pushing forward.

I’m going to give you some of my best practices to setting goals and steps ensuring that I obtain them. So if you're looking for some guaranteed tips to help you get to the next level keep reading.

How to Set Goals

1. SMART method

When setting goals I like to use the SMART method. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timebound.

Specific- Goals should be clear and specific. You should be answering who, what, why, where, and when. The why behind your goals is most important. There was a study done that said that 76% of the participants who wrote down their goals achieved them compared to the 43% who had their goals unwritten. Take the vision and make it plain. Theres a science behind writing down things.

Measurable- Your goals should include criteria for measuring progress and success. This will help you stay motivated by seeing tangible results.

Achievable- Your goals should be realistic. If you have a business and don’t already generate revenue; having a goal to hit 100’000 dollars by the next month is unrealistic for you in that current moment of reality. The more realistic you are the better. The chances of you obtaining realistic goals are way better.

Relevant- Your goals should align with who you are, what you are attempting to do and who you are attempting to become. The long-term plan and overall vision should be taken into consideration.

Time bound- having ambitious realistic deadlines will help with task prioritization. This will help you stay motivated as well. Having deadlines in the midway point of a goal is a great way to give yourself some dopamine and a push to keep going.

I think with the current state of instant gratification being everywhere we turn it’s so helpful for your future self to go about planning your goals this way. This will teach delayed gratification and will help you not feel so intensely about not having overnight results.

How to Get on The Same Frequency as Your Goals

The world around us operates on energy levels and that can be either high or low. When something is vibrating on the same frequency as you it becomes part of your reality. When you start doing high frequency activities, you’ll naturally start attracting high frequency opportunities. When you’re operating on a lower frequency you will attract low frequency opportunities

2. Visualization techniques

Visualization techniques are a great way to start operating at a higher level. Something I like to do is mental rehearsal. Mental rehearsal is when you constantly rehearse your goals and their steps mentally. This will boost your confidence and your focus.

Positive affirmations are also a great practice. That’s either verbally or physically writing them down. This will help reinforce positive beliefs and your attitude will improve overall.

Some examples are:

“I am so happy it is all working out for me”

“I am so blessed and highly favored”

“I am always in a great mood”

“God is working everything out in my favor"

Your brain will naturally think negative on its own. It’s your responsibility to feed it positivity as much as possible. This will help you to have a growth mindset; always encouraging continuous learning and improvement.

Habit Stacking and Why You Should do it.

3. Habit Stacking

Habit stacking is when you link a new habit with an existing one to make it easier to adopt. This will increase your chances of forming a new habit by 60%. This method is going to simplify the process of habit formation and promote consistency by utilizing your already established daily routine. Take some paper and be reflective on what your current routine is. Really be transparent with yourself. Something that we don't think of but is true is that no routine is also a routine.

Start small and build as you go. For example, if you want to start meditating daily you can start doing it 10 minutes a day after you brush your teeth. Using a journal or a workbook like the free one I have is a great way to track progress and be accountable. In the workbook you can use the free planner to plan your days to include new habits in your schedule. After 7 days see what worked and what didnt work.

4.Acountability Partner

Having an accountability partner with the same mindset and beliefs as you will help you stay on track and remain productive. You can set it up however you like whether thats constant communication or having weekly check ins to track your progress. You can also have really cool and cute events planned with your accountability partner. Some events I like to do with my partner are:

Vision board parties

Prayer board parties

Release parties

Quarterly Check in meetings

These are just some of the few things I do to ensure I'm remaining productive and meeting my goals.

Setting goals shouldn't be hard but sometimes can prove to be. With these tools I gave you today I hope this makes the process so much easier. With visualization techniques and habit stacking you will be able to really step into your purpose and start doing the things you've been dreaming about. I know that it may be a challenge at first but starting small is the best way to go. You don't have to rush!! Small steps, great distances. As always i'm here to help
